Fun for the sake of Fun: Maikeru Vs Anya (not a gym battle)

Maikeru decided it was time for a battle. He went into the nearby gym. Although the offical gym was closed, it was open to the public for friendly matches. He walked in and found the gym leader, looking rather bored. He walked up and asked.. "Are you up for a battle? I could use the practice."

Anya sat peacefully in the center of her gym, legs crossed and arms relaxed upon her lap. Over her ears were the pair of headphones she'd had for years. They were grey in color, and covered in various stickers and designs drawn with permanent marker. The bar connecting either headphone was black and made of a plastic with pads on the inside to make them more comfortable. The massive headphones projected a soothing smooth jazz song into her ears, filling were with the sense of completion that she normally felt while listening to jazz or acoustic songs. She smiled softly to herself, eyes closed, as she absorbed herself in her music. Sitting in the small space between her crossed legs were four pokeballs, all of which contained one of her four trusted Pokemon. She hadn't gotten a challenge in quite some time, and it was getting a bit boring around here. Anya, a girl of the age 20, looked like she couldn't have been older than eighteen. She was short in stature, pale skinned, and beautiful with sharp, regal features. Her stormy grey eyes were hidden behind soft eyelids and defined black eyelashes.

Suddenly, one of the pokeballs opened up. Her eyes were closed and her ears were preoccupied, but there was a soft red light behind the black mask of darkness that warned her of what had happened. Cracking her eyelids open, she peered out to see Dewgong. Smiling, she launched herself from her sitting position, wrapping her arms around its neck. Dewgong laid its nose upon the crown of her head like a kiss, and released a soft sound of happiness that Anya wouldn't catch. She hugged the Dewgong tighter, and suddenly, the music stopped. There was a light beeping noise coming from a speaker to her right, a challenger? Dewgong disappeared in a burst of red light, returning to its pokeball as Anya looked around at her surroundings.

She was sitting on one of two peninsulas, each on either end of a massive pool. Scattered about the massive body of water were various platforms and rocks, for pokemon that couldn't fly or swim. Both peninsula were long stretches of marble which ended in a circular platform for each trainer to stand on. There was one massive door on either end, the one behind her leading into the training area and further on into her home while the one before her led to a small, comfortable room that the trainers would find themselves in. It was there that they would wait to challenge her on busy days, the only indicator that she was free being a light above the doorway which glowed green when she wasn't challenging anyone. In her pocket rested the remote that switched the light to red when a battle was about to begin. They were within something of a bowl within the room, the rims of this bowl lined with rails. Behind these rails were Bleachers, for spectators who wanted to watch the battle from a safe distance.

Nodding to herself, she stood up and placed the four pokeballs within the messenger bag resting on her left shoulder. The bag was dark blue in color, with a larger version of her gym badge designed upon the flap. It was simply a cyan water drop, but it represented so much more than that. She wasn't about to get herself lost in thoughts of symbolism, though, she had a visitor that would soon appear before her. Itching with anticipation, Anya stood still upon her peninsula, biting on her bottom lip lightly to keep herself from getting impatient. Oh wait... She thought to herself, suddenly becoming disappointed. Today was an off day, there would be only friendly matches today.

As she thought of this the boy walked into the gym's battle arena. "Oh, I'm always up for a battle! How many pokemon do you have? I'll make sure to only use that many." She said cheerfully, placing one hand in her messenger bag, preparing to pick her pokemon.

"Only two im afraid. I do want to get another, but its not the easiest thing. The first is my Eevee, named Silver because of its color, and a Normal Plusle." As he said this, the tossed both of his pokeballs up, letting both pokemon out. Silver eyed the water suspiciously, then put his paw in, testing it. It seemed to be lukewarm. Plusle's cheeks sparkled with a few bits of electricity in anticipation. Maikeru smiled.

"So which one will you use first? The Eevee or the Plusle? Plusle is electric." She mused to herself, taking her headphones down from her head and placing them around her neck like a necklace. She removed two pokemon from her bag. Looking down at the minature red orbs, she peered into them as if looking at the pokemon inside. Don't let me down.

Maikeru thought about it. Plusle was the clear choice when it came to type matchups... but he probably needed to keep Plusle healthy to take on the stronger pokemon. "Im going to use Silver." At this, silver jumped on to one of the islands nearest Maikeru and took a battle ready stance.

Anya smiled softly to herself as she moved one of her pokeballs so that it was held between her forefinger and thumb, while the other rested in the cradle of her palm. With a simple click of the white button it grew larger, opening up reveal a beam of red energy. The red energy began to take the form of a blob, which would soon become spherical. The spherical blob again took shape, this time taking the shape of a spiky orb. The orb suddenly released several tentacles. When the red light cleared away, an Octillery was floating in the water before Anya. "You are the challenger, you make the first move." She said cheerfully.

"Gladly." Maikeru looked at the water. Silver was normally a good swimmer, but an Octillary was a better one, so staying above the water was a good move. Plus Octillary's speed made it hard to hit, so each had to count. Which of course is the issue. "Silver! use Tail whip!" Silver started to spin around chasing his tail.

Anya could only muster the comprehension to raise her eyebrows. Either this boy's pokemon was terribly misbehaved or just stupid. Either way it wasn't going to last very long against Octillery. Just as the name sounded, Octillery was a heavy hitter and one of Anya's best direct-combat pokemon. He had crushed other pokemon before without giving them the chance to get within five feet of him; every one of his attacks having a long to medium range so to avoid physical combat. "Octazooka." Anya commanded in a soft, yet somehow piercing voice. Suddenly, Octillery's tube-like mouth closed in on itself, bulging for a second before a blast of ink fired toward the Eevee, with more force than was probably necessary. The black liquid would strike the foe, doing less damage through direct force than it would through the stinging of the liquid in its eyes and burning on its tongue should it open its mouth. More than that though, in order to clean itself it would need to dive in the water, and that was what Anya was waiting for.

Maikeru smirked, both the gym leader and the octillary fell for the tail whip. Silver was still chasing his tail, but it was also gaining speed, and when Maikeru said "Dodge!" he had no trouble jumping to another island closer to the Octillary. "Tail whip again!"

"Let's get creative for the kid, Octi!" Anya called out enthusiastically, as the boy made his Eevee dodge the attack. The result was still good for her; the spray of ink had hit and covered every platform and rock in a straight line where it had directed its attack, leaving them slippery and poor platforms to stand upon. "Spin around, and repeat." She commanded, as Octillery spun toward the Eevee, spraying another pressurised blast of ink. This blast would spray onto the platforms before Octillery, while still aiming toward the Eevee. However, this time the force was a lot lower, increasing the width of its range while decreasing the power behind it.

Dam, this trainer was good. Maikeru quickly had to think, then came up with a way Eevee might make it to a clear platform. "Silver! Dodge and land on a platform with the ink on it, slide, then jump onto a clear platform!" Silver did as he was told, but as he hit a clear island, he continued to slide, and slid into the water, leaving 4 trails of ink... "No! Silver, get out of the water!" Silver frantically tried to get back on the island.

"Let Octillery help." Anya said cheerfully, a sadistic sense of humor hovering about her. "Water gun!" With that Octillery was suddenly near Eevee, As Eevee pawed at the, now ink covered, platform's edge, with ink and water on its paws, Octillery released a blast of pressurised water from its snout. Due to the pokemon's struggle and the fact that it was turned away from Octillery, the odds of it dodging were slim. Octillery wasn't holding back with his attack, but it probably wouldn't end things just yet. At most it would knock the poor pokemon back into a boulder or large rock floating around somewhere, which would both hurt it badly and give it a place to stand.

Maikeru could only Cringe and watch Silver get blasted into a nearby boulder. He had lots of damage, and looked like he could barely stand. Maikeru had no choice. He reached into his pocket and got out silver's pokeball. "Silver, Return." A red beam of light shot out, enveloped Silver, and dragged him back to his pokeball. Maikeru gave the leader a look of anger, then gestured to Plusle. Its your turn Plusle. Use spark on the water. Plusle growled a little, being angry also, and shot electricity into the water. The water conducted it, sending electricity throughout the entire pool of water.

Having the luxury of suckers, Octillery pulled itself onto the ink-stained platform in triumph as the pokemon was blasted into a nearby rock. It watched as electricity filled its home, leaving it without a place to go. Anya let out a small sigh and brought its pokeball up to shoulder-height. "Too fast.." She mumbled to herself as a brilliant crimson light touched Octillery, bringing it back. "It wouldn't be fun if you didn't get to see my second pokemon as well." She said, explaining why she had removed a perfectly healthy pokemon from the field. Suddenly, another crimson light entered the air. From her palm this light sprang forth, forming the outline of her next pokemon. This pokemon landed in the water, taking to the deeps of the pool before it had even finished dispersing the red light. When it appeared again, it released a few amused bubbles before flipping onto its back and revealing what it was. "Meet Quagsire."

Dam, a Ground type, not only does it neutralize the electric type advantage, it actually switched it. Oh well, Quagsire aren't known to be increadibly fast or bright, so this battle isn't won yet. "Plusle, use growl, then quick attack. Be careful of the ink. Plusle let out a growl meant to scare the opponent, then jumped from island to island at high speed, using the ink to propell him faster...

Quagsire, which was on its back at the time, heard a barely-audible growl coming from the tiny pokemon it would have to face. Turning its dumb stare on the pokemon, it watched as the pokemon dashed around him, using the ink to speed it up. Anya smiled to herself, sure it would gain speed, but stopping at this point would be nearly impossible. "Turn over and use your water gun!" She called out, and Quagsire did just that. The result was basically her Quagsire being rocketed into the air. As it seemed to hang in mid air, face down, Anya would call out another command. "Use your mud shot!" Quagsire did just that, releasing several projectiles of mud from its mouth. The projectiles would crash down on the nearest platforms and rocks to Quagsire, having gained enough momentum to actually crush them. As it flew back down into the water, hitting the surface and continuing on several feet into the deep pool, rock and debris would fly through the air, possibly hitting the Plusle, and definitely leaving it with no place to land that was close to Quagsire.

Maikeru snickered, he wasnt afraid of Quagsire in the water. Mud and dirt washed away in it. Plusle was a good swimmer too. Not to mention that after the battle she would have a horrible mess to clean up. Plusle had gained enough speed to get enough distance to hit quagsire, and the water would even wash off the ink. "Plusle! Use all the speed you have to hit him." Plusle did one last slide/jump and rocketed towards the Quagsire.

"Go under water, then slam!" Anya called out, working with a precision only developed through years of being a trainer. Quagsire, like a robot, worked instantly upon command. It wasn't bright and it couldn't really fight with its own head, but it followed orders more effectively than any one of her pokemon besides Dewgong. Instantly it sunk down beneath the water as the Plusle shot past it. When the Plusle was just about to clear over Quagsire, Quagsire shot out of the water, throwing its entire body weight at the pokemon. The resulting impact would probably send them both back, but Quagsire only had water to worry about landing in, the Plusle had quite a few other possibilities. There was the railing surrounding its owners peninsula, the rocks and islands that were left, or even the wall directly behind it.

As plusle flew, he remembered Silver, and he didn't want that to happen again. While plusle was still in the air, he bought up his pokeball and said "Return!" Plusle looked at Maikeru, perfectly fine, wondering why he had called him back. when Plusle was safely in his ball, he looked at Anya. "I can tell I'm not ready to beat you, so I concede the victory to you. When I fight you for real though, it will be different." With that he walked out of the door, making sure to head to the pokemon center to heal Silver.

Three identical beams of red light flew from her messenger bag as the other red beam retracted the Plusle. A loud splash resounded off the walls of the gym as Quagsire fell back into the water, playing with the other three water Pokemon that Anya possessed. She smiled happily at them as the trainer turned to leave. "I look forward to it, Kid. By the way, what was your name..?" She replied, but by then he had already left, probably to go get his pokemon rested and fixed up. Shrugging, she brought her headphones back up to her ears and turned on some smooth jazz, watching as her pokemon played.
